Join us for a conversation and roundtable with past CEE Fellow Wazhmah Osman on the release of her latest volume, “Decolonizing Afghanistan: Countering Imperial Knowledge & Power,” edited with Robert D. Crews. This is the first comprehensive volume to explore the impact of empire on Afghanistan’s past and present. This new collected volume features cross-disciplinary, ground-up perspectives on colonial projects in Afghanistan and paths to decolonial futures. The collection focuses on the US intervention that began in 2001 and marks a decolonial turn in Afghanistan and American studies.

This event will feature contributors Paula Chakravartty (New York University), Nivi Manchanda (Queen Mary, University of London), Wazhmah Osman (Temple University), Hosai Qasmi (Hosa Counselling and Research), Marya Hannun (University of Exeter), Robert Crews (Stanford University), and Sabauon Nasseri (Beloit College) speaking on topics including literature, film, the press, and developmentalism and on how visual tropes, textual narratives, mythologies, and ideologies shape how Afghanistan is portrayed locally and abroad.
