VISITING RESEARCHERS
Each year, the Center for Experimental Ethnography is able to host a limited number of Visiting Researchers working at the intersection of ethnography and performance, sound, film, photography, and/or visual arts. These are non-compensated appointments for researchers who wish to conduct time-limited multimodal research or production while at Penn.
Who Can Apply
Researchers at various career stages may apply, including established faculty, graduate students pursuing terminal degrees (MFA, MSW, MD, PhD), and independent scholars with advanced degrees.

Application Process

- A one-page letter outlining your research project, its connection to our center's mission, its relevance to Philadelphia, and your plans for sharing/publishing/exhibiting your work. Please Include your preferred visiting dates.
- Your current CV or resume.
- A sample of your work—this could be writing, a publication, or a multimodal creation.

If your application is successful, we'll reach out with further details about your visit and any necessary paperwork.
What We Expect
- We ask you to engage actively with the CEE community through events, workshops, and conferences
- We ask that you share the research you conduct here with relevant communities
What You Need
- Applicants should have their own funding through grants, fellowships, or other sources.
- Please note that we cannot provide office space or housing. However, we facilitate loans of multimodal equipment (video cameras, sound equipment, projectors) and access to our editing suite and professional editing programs.
- We welcome international scholars and can provide supporting documents for visa applications, but we cannot cover visa-related expenses.
