directed and produced by Gordon Dee Asaah in conjunction with choreographer and curator Reggie Wilson
GROUNDS THAT SHOUT!…and others merely shaking is a film documentary of the 2019 dance project, curated by Reggie Wilson with choreography created by Fist and Heel Performance Group. This project featured eight Philly choreographers and dance groups at three historic churches in Philadelphia (St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Old Pine Street Church, and Mother Bethel A.M.E. church) and the spaces between them.
Directed and produced by Gordon Divine “Dee” Asaah, in conjunction with Reggie Wilson, and executive produced by the Center for Experimental Ethnography, GROUNDS THAT SHOUT! takes viewers on a journey into Wilson’s curatorial process, one that explores the cultural encounters between particular artists and particular spaces of worship.Curated by award-winning choreographer Reggie Wilson, Grounds that Shout! (and others merely shaking) was a series of performances that respond to the layered histories of Philadelphia’s religious spaces through contemporary dance performances that addressed religion and movement as well as sacred African American practices, the body, and worship experiences.
